Auto-Update

Support Staff March 01, 2010

As of v1.2.0, Unify has an auto-update feature that will automatically rewrite your Unify files with the latest code, making updates for your and your clients as simple as possible. To auto-update there are some requirements:

  • Only admin accounts can auto-update
  • You must have the cURL PHP library installed on your server
  • You must provide FTP info

If all of these requirements are met, then:

  • Go to the “dashboard” or “settings”. On any page in the dashboard/settings, you will see an update box in the top right corner. Click “Update Now!”.
  • You will be prompted to confirm the auto-update. Click “update”.
  • After the update has completed successfully, click “done”.

It should really be that simple. If an error occurs during the auto-update, you will need to manually update Unify. Basically, you just re-install Unify via your FTP client.

If you are updating from version 1.2.8 or below to version 1.3, you will need to manually update Unify. This should only be necessary this one time, and all further updates should work automatically with no issue. We needed to make a change to how the auto-update works, and should not need to change it again going forward.

Auto-updating from 1.2.x will just update to version 1.2.8.

Thank you for your patience with this.

I have updated to 1.3. If I go to the dashboard, the "back to editing" button does not work in Firefox 3.6. Javasctipt is activated. In IE8 it seems to work.

Also inserting an image only seems to work in IE but not in FF.

I tried on a different computer with FF3.6 and it worked. So I restarted my FF here and it works, too.

Sorry, you can delete above posts.

Hey Heike.

It sounds like you may have a conflicting plug-in or extension in Firefox. Have you tried disabling them one by one and see if it works?

If you find that it was a conflict, please post the plug-in here or in the Known Conflicts topic, and we will try to fix it in a future version:

I disabled html validator and it works. This is not good since I need this add-on.

auto update breaks (ver. 1.3.11)  and get rid of "settings" page message "update available?

hey there,

first time problems with auto-update. worked well before. now it hangs up after i click "update". in all modern browser e.g. mozilla 4.0 beta. safari 5, chrome 10, etc … very strange. same server, same installation.

so i decided to do it manually, works, but the "settings" - site still says "new update blabhabah"

1. any idea on the auto update problem?
2. how to get rid of the "settings" message "new download available" if i manually put up vers. 1.3.11

thank you very much, everything else is fine ;)

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for letting us know.

It looks there is a bug in 1.3.11 that keeps the old version number after updating. We're working on a fix that will be put into the next version.

Thanks again,

Ryan

It looks like the auto update crashed...

The Auto update dialog window "Auto-Updating... Please Wait" just sits there.

I've waited like an hour now but this should only take minutes.

What do I do now?

I could see now in Safari Activity that the update was cut off (error in red color).

I have saved this message but dont know if it's safe to paste here though.
